Response to Marc and Anonymous

I feel that I really should respond to both Marc and Anonymous (get some guts anonymous and use your email address or blog address) on their comments to my post on David from Big Broether wanting to become a National Party Politician.

First off I stand by what I said especially about gay people who support right wing politics, I have a huge problem with them.

Let's face it, the poilitical party to which David is aligning himself with, actively displays hatred, intolerance and by default supports violence against gays and lesbians.

Yes he is as entitled to his opinions as I am. But when that opinion affects people's lives negatively I will attack.

Marc you say that these things are not important. I am sorry to hear that you don't believe that equality is not important, and people such as Harvey Milk and others gave their lives for their beliefs is not important.

The struggle for equality is of vital importance.

Finally let me say this to you Marc, don't you dare tell me to "less time looking at your own tummy flab in the mirror and listen to other points of view" you have no idea what or who I am apart from this very one dimensional look at me though my blog. This blog does not define my values and beliefs.

Yes I must help change things as they are not good in our society and while we have bigoted politicians in power they will never get any better.

To anonymous, use your name and email address if you wish to attack that's only fair.

I don't live in Newtown and I don't wear pink coloured glasses, my friends are not all gay nor do they all live in gay ghettos.

I used "Fat suburban queen" as a term not a description of where they live or even whether they are fat (as they do not live in the suburbs and they are not fat either.

There enough said.

HOT HOT HOT

It's been unusually hot the last week with temperatures soaring into the mid 30s (that's centigrade). Work is full on and I have been fighting off a head cold, which is a pain because it is interupting my gym workouts!

Only five days to go till Sleaze too!

New Computer

I finally pulled my finger out and have upgraded to a new notebook computer! So for the next couple of days (or hopefully only today) I will be transferring the content over to the new computer and then sorting it all out.

For those of you computer geeks, I did not go for the apple Mac. In the end I went for the new Sony SZ Vaio!

Work is Full On

Work has been full on this week with lots and lots of work to get done so I can complete a few major projects and bill the clients before the end of the month.

I have been really good with the gym of late, working out at a huge intensity which is fantastic, and I am now consistently about 73.5 kgs and I would estimate somewhere between 10 - 12% body fat.

I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that unless I completely stop eating I will always have my little bit of fat around my tummy. And since I love to eat there is no bloody way I am not eating LOL!

HNT

I have been promising a picture of my gym progress, so here its is. These were taken last night by the boy. The body shape is definitely changing which is fantastic, although I think the small amount of fat at my lower waist may never go away *sigh*.

I did manage last night to bench press 90 kgs which is a personal best for me! So it's now five and a half weeks into the new program and another two and a half weeks till the end of the new program. So I will do another HNT in two weeks!

Can You be Politically Conservative & Gay?

David the recent contestant in Australia's Big Brother, the openly gay Queensland farmer has made no secret over his desire to get into politics. But his political leanings are right wing with the extrodinarily homophobic National party.

In his own words he want's to push a gay agenda through this party. Now forgive me for my cynicism, this is a party which is right wing, Christian Fundamentalist and thinks poofters are the scum of the earth.

But yet this yokel wants to join them? Give me a break mate!

Number one I thinbk david is a looney bin doing more damage to gay rights in his stint on Big Brother than the gay hairdresser (don't ask me for names because I have no idea). He might be a smart lad I have no idea, but to cry every five minutes, act like a total drama queen in arguments storming off and throwing little hissy fits and now wanting to support an anti gay political party?

How do you spell internalised homophobia?

I personally have a huge issue with gay people who support conservative right wing politics, and I am not ashamed of saying this. Several weeks ago I got all heated at a dinner party when a fat suburban queen indicated that he was a huge John Howard supporter. I was incensed and very pissed off at the short sighted, me me me attitude this showed. Not to mention the total lack of self respect and obvious disdain he was showing anyway for all things gay.

I saw a great comment about the right wing gay guys recently, suggesting if you are gay and you support right wing politics then you are supporting the re-criminalisation of homosexuality and supporting the pushing back into the closet of gay people just to mention two issues.

Sure sometimes it is important to work from within a political party to effect change, but in this case it's tantamount to saying that it is OK to marginlise and discriminate against minorities and we shoudl be thankful for anything we get given.

Well I for one hope that David wakes up and smells the coffee. If he wants to push gay rights join a party that cares not a party which actively discriminates.

Downunderpants becomes D.U.P

One of my fellow Australian Bloggers, Downunderpants was harassed and threatened legally by the underwear site with the same name to stop using their name on his blog.

So he has become D.U.P - http://www.d-u-p.blogspot.com/!

Personally I think that this is pretty bad publicty for the underwear company, targeting a non commercial blogger like this. I for one will make sure that I don't buy anything from them, and if they come across this on the web, might I suggest that you make it up to D.U.P by sending him some free underwear and grovelling!

After all, how can a cool non commercial blog hurt an established chain?

Working Out

It's hard to stay motivated at the gym, especially when you are a bit tired and worn out froma long day at work. But then you look at pictures of a perfect body like the one above and all your motivation returns!

Tonight was the last day of the workout week, so tomorrow I go back to day one and start again. I do find it hard at the gym and have often lamented about my desire for a workout buddy, but have never really either got my shit together ot find one, or found one that is at my level (IE not too full on and not a beginner).

I was talking to a guy I know at the gym about the need for a gym buddy and we were swapping notes, Micheal works out 4 times a week to gain bulk, whereas on average I workout about 6 times a week, and my goal is lean muscle mass and an increase in size. The two goals are not the same and we do such dis-similar workouts that it wouldn't work out.

Maybe I should put an advert ont he gym wall and see what happens? Mind you I would be worried what would happen if I didn't like working out with the person, or what if they didn't like working out with me? Then it would be a sticky situation LOL!

I have also decided that next week provided I feel that my progress is good I will get the boy to take some pictures so I can show the progress I have made. Since I didnt really take "before" shots I will just have to find some pictures which show just how skinny I was and how much of a fat tummy I had.

Design Freak

As anoyone who has read my blog over time or knows me for that matter, I am a total design freak. I find common objects that are designed to be unique pieces of art to be quite stunning. Designers like Alessi, Georg Jensen, Phillipe Starck, Henningson, Itala etc are all present in our home, in everything from Alessi Hanging Man Container's to Jensen spoons.

One of aspects of design that really gets me going is the use of common objects in multi-purpose designs, especially where light is involved. I have a huge hankering for lights in all sorts of shapes, colours, sizes and tones.

One of my favorite online stores - http://www.gnr8.biz/ Generate has an outstanding collection of moulded plastic pieces of furniture that are also lights.

As we piece by piece decorate our apartment to our liking, each aspect of the apartment is uniquly styled to provide a specific them and of course to flow form one area to another.

Our downstairs balconey is an area which needs a lot of work, as it flows off our main living area and has a dramatic impact on the "look & Feel" of the downstairs area.

My plan is to have at one end three of the Bloom Pot's with lush green trees to provide a backdrop for the side wall and to help soften the outlook. The pots act as a soft muted light as well, so there will be no need to have a harsh outdoor light for the balconey and will help when turned on create more of a mood lighting down that end of the room too.

The Queen

I am looking forward to seeing this film. Apart from being a seminal moment in the last ten years. I am also a huge huge fan of Helen Mirren. Her role is already being pipped as deserving an Academy Award!

Email Problems & Comments

It would seem that I am not getting all of my emails delivered properly. I just went into Blogger and found a huge backlog of comments requiring moderation.

I don't know why this happened, but I have finally fixed them all!

On a rlated note, someone left anonymous message on my pos about the passing of Christopher, it would seem that the poster knows me and is a friend that I have not seen or heard from in a while. In keeping with today's post about catching up with old friends it would be nice to get back in contact with you.

Or at least to find out who you may be :)

Funnily enough Christopher's nephew who I met at his party sent me an email over the weekend thanking me for immortalising Christopher in cyber space. Apparently the top Google search result for his name is my post here. It is a small world!

It had to Happen Quickly!

Friends

I have been recently reminded just how important friends are and even though you may notv see your friends for years they are still your friends.

Over the last couple of years the boy and I have been focused on our work and careers, often to the detriment of our friends. We tend to see the same people over and over again and can lose contact with friends that we don't see on a regular basis.

It's normal I suppose, but I know that I should be making much more of an effort. Some of our friends live in far flung countries around the world and through circumstance we just simply don't get to travel to all the places in the world I would like to.

But I know with our international friends, it would only take a few minutes of being together before it would be the same old wonderful friendship it was the last time we were all together.

However some of our friends who we have not seen in a while live within minutes of us.

A good friend made an interesting comment to me a few weeks ago. He said that for a long time he felt like he was making all the effort to see us.

I thought about it and agreed that yes he had been making all the invitations and organising all the dinners, lunches etc. I went away and thought about this, and while I agreed that yes he had been the one making the invitations, but that didn't mean we were not appreciative of the effort.

It's a time and sanity issue. We both tend to work quite long hours, though we both tend to do more work from home than in our respective offices so we can spend more time with each other, instead of spending it int he confines of a boring office.

A lot of people do mistake us being at home for being "free" or "available".

Nonetheless I have decided that I do need to make more of an effort to make sure I see all of our friends on a more regulara basis.

I'm Dripping

Yes I am dripping and no not like that you dirty boy!

Yesterday afternoon a steady drip appeared in the downstairs bathroom ceiling, naturally this is casue for concern as we really don't need a flooded downstairs. In addition to this of course we had to chase two junkies out fo the building and we had both families over for dinner last night too..

However the plumber came again this morning and tore a dirty great big hole in the ceiling. His veridict is that a fire sprinkler pipe has sprung a leak, something he cannot fix. Instead the fire services company has to come out, flush the entire system, make the repair and then repressurise the system.

This apparently is not a small piece of work, and requires someone to investigate the problem (again) and then for the relevant materials, workers to be ordered.

As usual my dealings with contractors under these sorts of circumstances are mixed. Whilst everyone that has come out has been professional and polite, getting things to actually happen is always a chore and I have had to pull rank a few times.

I have learnt a valuable lesson early in life that being nice in these sorts of situations always gets more done. However being nice can be seen as either a soft touch, or the person on the end of the telephone infers that the problem is not serious.

Being the head of the body corporate does have it's advantages, one of which being I know all the staff of the Strata Company. It does however also have it's drawbacks, in that I can't scream at them when they forget to fax the work order over for six hours, yes I mean that they forgot to approve the contractors for six hours.

*sigh*

so I have worked from home today and by the looks of it I will have to be home again tomorrow. Well at least the dog is happy!

The Pain and the Frustration

We finally purchased a multi function remote control over the weekend to control all of our multimedia equipment. The model we chose was the Logitech Harmony 520, because you can set it up using your computer (yeah yeah yeah I know I am a geek).

It looked so easy to set up and I could finally get rid of the seven or so remote controls that litter the side table next to the sofa. Oh what sweet sweet potential I could almost taste the excitemet as I ripped open the packaging and plugged it in to my computer.

OMG three and a half hours of pure torture later I finally got the bloody remote to actually work properly.

But now finally after almost taking the damn thing back to the store and asking for a refund it works, even though sometimes you have to press "Help" to make something work when you do a "Watch TV" or "Watch DVD" campaign.

Advice on Apple Mac Needed

On another topic, I am thinking of getting a Macbook 2 Gig Due Core notebook to replace my sony vaoi running windows. I will be running Boot Camp so I can still use Windows (all of my business and development software is windows).

Has anyone got some advice on what they think of the Mac book and importantly whether running windows using bootcamp they have ironed out all the bugs and it all works now?

Spring is here!

It's the second day of Spring and Mother Nature could not be more excited in good old Sydney! The temperature is well into the mid 20's (centigrade) - mid 70s F, the sky is a beautiful blue and in general there is an excitement in the air!

I love Spring in Sydney, well all over really. That time of year when everything starts to blossom and the trees get all lushly green, it makes you want to be outside really enjoying it!

Over the next four weeks I am really focused on pushing my workouts to a new level, to totally explode through all my previous training plateaus and see just how much of a difference I can have to my overall body shape.

I can tell I am not quite in balance between working out, eating healthily and seeing friends etc just quite yet. The last few days I have had that feeling of a cold almost starting, but I have increased my vitamin C intake to try and nip it in the bud.

The last thing I want at the moment is a cold interupting my workout regime when I am seeing such a huge result.

Sleaze Ball is in four weeks tonight and I am so totally focused on taht being my next "objective". for my workouts. I tend to break all my longer term objectives into 6 - 8 week goals that are achievable and it is both something I can work towards and look forward to.

The pictures this week are all from Flickr, and show off the wonders of the Speedo!

Cutting Back and Moving Forward

As an experiment I have been cutting back on the amount of alcohol I drink on a nightly basis, to see whether it affects my body shape (read fat level) and my sleeping patterns.

Not suprisingly the sleeping has been a lot better the last week, and as I am a notoriously bad sleeper to start with sleeping through the night without a sleeping pill is a novel experience!

I can't really tell whether the reduction in alcohol is having a difference on the fat levels in my body, because I am working out so hard at the moment and my body is really changing anyway. This whole body obsession seems to have ound it's balance with me. I am still working out 6 times a week, cutting out the sugary and fatty foods and reducing the overall amount of food I eat, but I am no longer obsessing about my body shape constantly.

I have learnt not to look at the scales as a measure of my success, because it doesn't fluctuate that much from week to week. The differences I can see are all in the mirror, things like an increase in upper body size and a decrease in the waist size.

I keep on saying I feel better and I really do! The difference in energy and overall "wellness" is amazing, mind you in two weeks time it will be 7 months since I stopped smoking! Yippeeeee no more smoking!

And talking of things in multiples of sevens, it was seven years on Wednesday since the boy and I met, yep seven whole years, of course we celebrate our actual anniversary as the day were were married and that will be three years in January.

So seven years on we have an apartment, a dog and a cat and we are both older (I am grayer too). We have seen friends come and go, have seen a lot of our friends get married, a few new children have been born in that time, and we have both progressed in our careers.

It will be interesting to see where we are in another seven years!

So until next time adieu!
