Get me
This has been one of those weeks from hell with computer disasters.
I spent the better part of three days tryiing to doaload drivers for my sony vaio from the sony website. At a glacial pace of 1.8kb a second.
But after days and days of sheer perseverance I have managed to get my computer into a workable order while I wait for the new recovery disks to be sent from Singapore.
Moral of the story is always keep your recovery disks somewhere!
I have spent the last two days battling a myriad of computer related disasters, from web server crashes, to trojans to windows xp total crashes and re installation woes.
I have a simple lovely sony vaio, which requires a gazillion sony drivers to make the stupid thing work.
I of course don't have the recovery disks so I have had to re-install windows from another disk and am now downloading the drivers from the sony website. At the lightening fast speed of 3 kb a second.
So what should take a few minutes is taking hours and hours and hours and is driving me up the wall.
You would think a company like Sony would have faster access to download drivers really
It's pathetic to say the least!
I am close to deciding to go out and just buy a new god damn computer really

It seems that the world spins at a million miles an hour and you just can't get off to have a break.
One of the problems with running your own business is the workload and associated stress never actually stops
Sure there are some great up sides and when things see good it's an amazing feeling to create something. But sometimes it would be nice not to have responsibility.
I need to find balance, whatever that means.
I need to find a way to stop stressing about three months away and enjoy today and enjoy the small and big wins and get over the small stuff.
As I get busier and more focused I have become so intolerant of people and particuarly friends.
Sigh
I have been ignoring friends too and just concentrating on work.
But on this Friday night I am going to relax and get quietly and happily tipsy and go to bed and sleep well.
Seen him playing in his backyard
Young boy just starting out
So much history in this landscape
So much confusion, so much doubtBeen there drinking on that front porch
Angry kids, mean and dumb
Looks like a painting, that blue skyline
God hates fags where we come fromchorus'Western skies' don't make it right
'Home of the brave' don't make no sense
I've seen a scarecrow wrapped in wire
Left to die on a high ridge fence
It's a cold, cold wind
It's a cold, cold wind
It's a cold wind blowing, WyomingSee two coyotes run down a deer
Hate what we don't understand
You pioneers give us your children
But it's your blood that stains their hands
Somewhere that road forks up ahead
To ignorance and innocence
Three lives drift on different winds
Two lives ruined, one life spent
It's a cold, cold wind
It's a cold, cold wind
It's a cold wind blowing, blowing, Wyoming
All I seem to be doing right now is working and stressing.
I am doing other stuff, like having random friends for dinner and going to the gym, but apart from that it's just work.
Like all small businesses in Australia I think we are being totally spooked by the doom and gloom of the GFC. But like most small business instead of seeing the downturn we are all working harder than ever.
It is paradoxical I suppose that whilst large companies are posting their worst ever profit and losses small companies are picking up the slack.
It's a balancing act, on the one hand there is lots of work coming in now for us which means we are all working like Lemmings.
But of course I am stressed out about cash flow in 3 months, 6 months etc.
It means though that I feel guilty if I am not working all the time and making sure that we get the clients in and done as rapidly as possible.
On the upside it does mean that business is good
Oh life is so paradoxical!
Following on from an article over the weekend that suggested Mardi Gras would move out to Homebush and away from Oxford Street I sent an email to New Mardi Gras.
To my surprise I received a response today from the chair of Mardi Gras.
So Thanks New Mardi Gras!
Hi Drew.
Thanks for your email.
The article that appeared on the weekend and which has now spread rapidly through to various publications took a couple of comments made by Anna and myself, and stretched them to make a paper-selling controversial story.
Don't be alarmed, we're not intending to move anything from where it currently is!
We are in fact negotiating with the City of Sydney to move our own offices to a City-owned building on Oxford Street after this season.
Regards.
And Happy Mardi Gras!

Message: Hi,
I am very against any move of the Mardi Gras Party or Parade from Oxford
Street / Fox Studios.
If we allow our selves to be pushed out of Oxford street we are essentially
giving up on our history and we are giving up on the one area of Sydney that
still has some resemblance of community.
Rather than even entertaining the idea of this New Mardi Gras should be
looking at ways to reclaim Oxford street as a queer area that is safe for people
to be.
